Autograf + Dirty South
“For us, the beauty about the Future is the endless possibilities it holds. In essence, it's a blank canvas waiting to be painted on. We'd love nothing more than to 'build' and 'make' a Future that's all our own. That means doing everything ourselves from scratch, bringing the hand of the artist back. So as we've been building a studio in the backyard and developing our new live show, we wanted to start this new "Future Nites" series of remixes and originals with an eye on creating music for these live performances. We added a marimba to the live set, so it was natural to use it for Issue 1 of "Future Nites", a remix we did for Dirty South. Live instrumentation will be an important part of our performances and songs, but "Future Nites" will stay true to the club. As summer turns to fall, and day turns to night, we hope that you'll paint these empty canvases of endless possibilities with us. You do it by sharing and blasting music out into the world, with every action you make. It's about leaving your mark on the world. It's about leaving your Autograf. This is Future Nites.”
Night Drive
Inspired by dark, synth-heavy electro pop, The Austin/Houston duo Night Drive released their first single "Drones" in June of 2013 followed by an array of remixes leading up to their 5 song EP, Position I. They spent the rest of the year on tour with international bands like Tesla Boy, Gold Fields and Jupiter, quickly garnering a reputation as a must see, high energy live show. 2014 has seen Night Drive at the moves and on the radio with their single "After Dark." Now the duo shares a brand new original "Young Rivals," out today via Sound Control Records. With David Bowie-esque vocals and romantically nostalgic melodies in the vein of New Order, "Young Rivals" feels like the closing song at your high school prom. Stay tuned for more from Night Drive as they prep an official "Young Rivals" video with a remix by New York City's sweethearts ASTR.
The Death of Summer
So here we are. Waiting out the official last week of summer before Fall shows up on Monday. The weather has already started changing from blistering heat to beautiful chilly, yet still warm enough, days. Jackets are being pulled out of the closet. Clothing colors are getting darker. If they changed summer vacation to fall vacation instead then life would be so much better. No one wants to be outside in the heat of summer where I live. Here's some tracks to help with the switch from summer to fall.
Night Drive + Goldroom
Night Drive's been busy in the studio producing their new album. When they heard the airy vocal stems, the two producers decided to make use of the studio time and put their own spin on the track. Adding live bass, guitars, and layered with silky electronic textures, Night Drive has created a unique track that stands all on its own. The remix picks up the pace with a soothing pulse of energy that glides along the top of a soft undercurrent to the end of summer.
Autograf
4 summers ago we were catching Soulwax / 2ManyDJs' set at Lollapalooza. They were on the dance stage up against Lady Gaga on the main. Halfway through their set as they were taking us to another level, the whole crowd started chanting "Fuck Lady Gaga!" for a good 20 minutes. You could tell it was the start of something big for dance culture. Since then, dance music has taken some really interesting twists and turns. So for Issue 2 of our ongoing "Future Summer" series, we wanted to cover an epic festival hit from 4 years ago, and bring it into The Future by giving it a sexy Tropical House / Future House chill vibe appropriate for any pool party or late night festival vibe tent.
