Crystal Vision

11.30
2010

With the bar already set high on dance music coming out of Oklahoma City, Katie Wicks & Bryan Peace, forming the duo known as Crystal Vision, finally release their long overdue EP, MOUSER. Splitting their schedule between traveling, the studio, and holding down their resident spot along with Kids At The Bar & Trash Yourself at ROBOTIC, one of the biggest weekly electro dance parties in the nation, Crystal Vision somehow found time to finish the two tracks on the EP and rally some great producers to supply remixes.

Crystal Vision’s MOUSER EP features the two tracks MOUSER & NEVER TOO MUCH along with remixes of MOUSER by Digiraatii, ShearGen1us, Bul!m!atron & TALK! You can find it on iTunes, Amazon & other major online retailers now on Robot Dance Records!

Metric + Death To The Throne

11.30
2010

Here’s a lovely story from Death To The Throne

the other day i was day i was stranded in downtown phoenix. i was meeting an old friend for lunch when she texted me and said she was gonna be late.

so as i’m wandering around aimlessly and telling homeless people i don’t have any spare change, i decided to go in to the urban outfitters and buy some pants, which i needed. (it’s important as a dj, to keep your pants game up) so i find a bunch of pants i like and go over to one of the girls who works there to give me a dressing room. and as im standing , holding a bunch of pants, waiting for a dressing room, i ask (as a joke!) “listen, i’m not wearing any underwear. is this gonna be a problem?”

anyway she didn’t find it too funny, and before you can say “barbra streisand, dooo doo do do doo doo do doooo ooo doo oo ew” the manager banned me from the urban outfitters. bullshit. now i have to buy really old looking t-shirts from jc penny’s now or something. lame

Daft Punk + Breakdown

11.30
2010

I met Josh from Breakdown at SXSW this year. He’s a swell guy. We chatted. We swapped swag. We shared some alcohol that wasn’t ours. Ever since then he’s been blowing up my inbox with some great stuff. I wasn’t originally going to post this just because every other blog out there has been and they destroyed the Hype Machine popular list with this track already. But hey, what do I care? I have a responsibility to my readers to deliver choice selections every day. Even if they think my taste in music has been wavering lately, like some comments have nicely suggested. My taste is just fine, thank you. I think you need to step off your high horse and realize that I can post whatever the fuck I want. This is my website, bitches. Oh, and keep leaving comments. I like when people leave comments.

Anyways, Breakdown does a fantastic job making Derezzed into something more enjoyable for me to listen to.

Canyons

11.24
2010

Canyons‘ story is one that can be traced back to the Nether Valley in the outer regions of the Western Australian landscape. Ryan Grieve and Leo Thomson began making music separately, under various guises, before coming together as Canyons. ‘Hole in the Sky’, the record label the two founded together, was their initial musical point of contact and the coming together of their creative minds.

Remixing the likes of Ladyhawke, the Juan Maclean, !!! and Tame Impala, Canyons caused a stir at home which was echoed across the pond in the US and Europe. Following on from these remixes, the band released one-off singles “Blue Snakes” on Parisian label I’m a Clich’e, closely followed by their deep, jamming epic, “Fire Eyes” on DFA Records.

Canyons then signed with Modular and began recording their debut album in the sound ranch they call home in inner-city Sydney.

Close your eyes, feel the sun on your face, dance inside and out… prepare yourselves for the sonic vision that is Canyons.

Arsenal

11.23
2010

ARSENAL release their album’s title track LOTUK. Singer-songwriter Shawn Smith (him of Seattle veterans Brad and Satchel) guests on this throughout shimmering tune, with a pulsating Kim Deal-like bass line, trancelike backing vocals and a deliciously naïve synthesizer loop that will keep you humming all day long.
Again, it comes action packed with a trio of quality remixes: Sasha Crnobrnja of fellow NYC hipsters INFLAGRANTI speeds up the vocal over heavy Moroderesque arpeggios, a cluster of beats from a battered Roland and lots of cowbell action.

Les Petits Pilous + The Subs

11.19
2010

The Subs teamed up with their good friends from Les Petits Pilous (BNR). Anthony from LPP, originally from France, has been living in Ghent since around a year, and Ghent being the homebase of our boys The Subs, it only seemed logical for them to get together in the studio and record some tunes. Les Petits Pilous became incontournable in the international electro scene since their extremely successful releases such as ‘Wake Up’ and ‘Bielle’ on Boys Noize his own record label. You can imagine that the combination of LPP and The Subs has resulted in two incredible club bangers; “My Body’s Gonna Remember” and “Rototom”. Woah!

Go grab it on Beatport!

Green Velvet + Breakdown

I do love some Green Velvet, but I have a confession to make. I haven’t heard this track until Breakdown sent me their remix of it. I have been really bad at keeping up with music lately. I do love what Breakdown is doing though

WLDCT + Miike Snow + Treasure Fingers

11.19
2010

I posted about WLDCT before and after that post their Duck Sauce remix has become my favorite to play out. Now they’ve done a nice rework of Treasure Finger’s remix of Miike Snow’s Animal. It focus’ more on the verse & chorus and should easily get the dancefloor population to start singing along.
