WRSTLRS

8.11
2010

WRSTLRS is seeing their first release this October plus some remixes from Thrills and Boy Kid Cloud as well. This is my favorite track from the LP, a poppy synth jam that needs to go on that mixtape you are making for that girl you like.

Dolby Anol

8.10
2010

There must be something in the water in Glasgow. Dolby Anol have been churning out hot release after hot release this year; Cameroon/Macaroon had clubbers screaming for more disco, so (like teasing femme fatales) they released Sandy Bitches – an electronic masterclass in simplicity with it’s superlative techno. Both had tails wagging for more with huge support from the usual big names and stations, as well as youtube fan videos coming from around the globe. So now they return to keep you guessing some more with the Visa Mastercard E.P.

With most artists these days the general trend is to take their samples on vacation; african rhythms, jewish chants, romanian folk et all. Dolby missed their flight to Somalia, however, and landed knee deep in Islamabad. Visa Mastercard takes Qawwali hymns and chants to spread a message of capitalism to all. In fact, only their cynical take on pretty much everything would be able to find the word “Visa” in an ancient chant from the east. The record is a departure – yet again – from the previous records, the samples are the stars here, not the “broken ragdoll” approach in Cameroon nor the clinical automaton of Sandy Bitches. The beats are heavy, claps are loud, the whole thing will have you in a frenzy that will have you running to the Ganges to cool down.

Whis This

8.9
2010

Whis This is a Milan-based fidget/crunk project born in 2009. The two djs/producers behind the name come from quite different musical backgrounds; Gianluca (LeBatman) is a french-touch/electro producer and dj, while Ale (Mad Thug) comes from a techno scene. They both released tracks and remixes on their own before meeting and deciding to put together their own personal backgrounds, tastes and experiences to create the unique sound of Whis This.

Chauffeur

8.4
2010

Born in a club and raised by a pack of wild prostitutes, Chauffeur avoids the light of day. He prefers to live when the stars come out. At night the city is alive and you can feel her pulse. It is the solid thumping kick momentarily drowning all of your senses, the pummeling synths that will turn you savage, the melody and sounds that release your soul. Celebrate good times c’mon!

I’ll cry if I want to.

Happy birthday to me!

Because its my birthday, you have to go to here and listen to and download all these tracks. Think of it as your present to me!

Also, if you’re in or around Oklahoma City tomorrow, come out to ROBOTIC tomorrow to help me celebrate. Our super special guest this week is Computer Club!

On Thursday we find out if we will win the Absolute Best of Tulsa Music Awards again this year. Last year we, Dance Robots, Dance!, won for Best Dance Party band. I know we aren’t technically a band but we throw some crazy dance parties! One of our members is also up for Best Club DJ of Tulsa as well. We wish her all the luck that we can wish from our little bodies.

Tonight, fellow DRD member and ROBOTIC DJ, John Bourke of Trash Yourself, will be playing at Cinespace in Hollywood for Dim Mak Tuesdays. He was just announced as the first winner of the Green Shoelace remix contest for his Fischerspooner Remix that we posted a while back. Told you he would win!

In label news, we just released the new Chrome Pony EP which is hitting online stores as we speak. BUT, if you’re a cheap asshole, you can download the tracks for free on their soundcloud. We’re that nice! You should just buy them though and support good music.

Finally, as always, keep sending us awesome music to share with the rest of the world. That is our favorite thing!

Gemini Club

8.3
2010

In sweaty loft parties, packed dance clubs, rock n’ roll joints and virtually anyplace with speakers you’ll find Gemini Club, who UR Chicago called ‘Chicago’s rising-star indie-electro act’. Formed in March of 2009, the trio comprised of Tom Gavin, Daniel Brunelle, and Gordon Bramli have wasted no time in making their presence felt not only in Chicago, but across the U.S., and the rest of the world. Generating buzz almost immediately after they released their debut EP Future Tidings in August of 2009, Gemini Club truly has the makings of an act destined to make the big break in the music industry.

The desires of the band are simple: Create brilliant dance music, and have fun doing it. But, there is more to these guys than the enjoyment of creating music. The trio has spent countless hours developing a live rig that is designed to successfully fuse the energetic and precise aspects of DJing with live vocals, synthesizers, guitars and bass. While the desires are simple, the objective is clear: Redefine what a “live” performance means. People are taking notice. Gemini Club has already managed to share the stage with DJ Falcon, Juan MacLean, Hercules & Love Affair, Depressed Buttons, Solid Gold, Hey Champ, Tigercity, French Horn Rebellion, WhoMadeWho and Database.

Given the massive attention Gemini Club has received since they released their EP, it should come as no surprise that Gemini Club’s first-ever remix, of The Vanish’s “Hold On”, hit #5 on the Hype Machine Charts; any aspiring producer would kill to receive that much attention on a first-effort. Gemini Club plans to keep that momentum going with remixes on the way with the likes of Shinichi Osawa, Housse de Racket, Hey Champ, and Moneypenny, as well as releasing their long-awaited – and highly lauded – single “Ghost” due out in October with remixes from Hey Champ, Only Children and Barretso. Given all of this production work, and all of the work spent on configuring a cutting-edge live rig, it should come as no surprise that Gemini Club is a busy group. The trio wouldn’t have it any other way.

Computer Blue + The Rapture

8.3
2010

Arguably one of the biggest ‘indie’ bands of the 2000′s, The Rapture were responsible for many o’ dancefloors getting sweaty back when that music was cool to dance to. Back when you had to walk 20 miles, up hill both ways in the snow, barefoot, with only a nokia to guide your way.

Anyways, my homies, Computer Blue, just plopped out a bootleg remix of Echoes that I’m sure will help kick start the jump back to nights when it wasn’t about raving out. It was about getting smashed on the cheapest, shittiest beer possible in the tiniest bars possible with 100 of your closest friends and making memories to tell your grandchildren.
